Best Engagement Photo Locations in Minneapolis + St. Paul MN

With its abundant natural beauty and captivating urban landscapes, the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, offer an array of picture-perfect engagement photo locations. From towering pines and expansive fields to serene gardens, shimmering lakes, and rivers, this vibrant metropolitan area shares a blend of both natural and man-made wonders. As a photographer, I am thrilled to share a curated selection of my favorite locations, each possessing its own unique charm and providing an ideal backdrop for special photo sessions.

IRVINE PARK

Tucked into a quiet corner of St. Paul, Irvine Park feels like stepping into a tiny historic fairytale. The Victorian houses surrounding the park give it this old-world charm that’s seriously underrated.

BOOM ISLAND PARK & STONE ARCH BRIDGE

Boom Island Park offers wide open spaces, a lighthouse, and stunning city views. And if you continue your journey for about ten minutes, you’ll reach the iconic Stone Arch Bridge. It’s a pedestrian bridge that provides not only a scenic way to cross the Mississippi River but also access to new restaurants and shops away from the downtown hustle. Keep in mind that Stone Arch Bridge is always bustling, so be prepared. But, regardless of the season, it remains an incredible engagement photo location.

ST. ANTHONY MAIN

Just a quick five-minute drive from Boom Island Park, you’ll find yourself in the vibrant Northeast Arts district, also known as St. Anthony Main. From the Aster Cafe, a walk towards the river reveals a captivating rock outcropping with breathtaking views of the city.

Summit Hill’s streets are lined with historic mansions, towering trees, and romantic, charming sidewalks. If you’re the kind of couple who loves wandering through beautiful neighborhoods with coffee in hand, this spot is perfect!

UNION DEPOT

If you love dramatic architecture, Union Depot is basically your stage. The giant arched windows, marble floors, and historic architecture make the whole space feel grand.

KELLOGG MALL PARK

Right in downtown St. Paul, Kellogg Park keeps things simple. The fountain is the star of the show, especially when the light hits it just right. It’s a solid pick if you want an easy time during a city date that still looks great in photos.

HARRIET ISLAND

Harriet Island is where you go when you want the skyline to do half the work for you. The views of downtown St. Paul across the Mississippi are ridiculously good, especially at sunset.

BLAIR ARCADE (+ NINA’S CAFE & GRAND AVE)

Don’t get too excited because this isn’t a gaming arcade but a historic apartment building built in 1887. Blair Arcade is nestled in the charming Cathedral Hill neighborhood. It shares similarities with the iconic Landmark Center and is home to apartments and local shops. The best part? It’s a public space, meaning shooting here is absolutely free. Just remember to be considerate of shoppers as you navigate the area.

THE LANDMARK CENTER IN RICE PARK

Located in the heart of downtown St. Paul, nestled within Rice Park, you’ll find The Landmark Center. This historic building was once a courthouse and now boasts stunning architecture inside and out. To be able to shoot here, be sure to schedule a session time with them since they also host weddings. Keep in mind that The Landmark Center is open until 4 pm, so plan accordingly. And it is free to shoot here, so that’s a win!

COMO LAKE AND PARK

If slow mornings and calm water sound like your vibe, Como Lake is a gem. The path around the lake, the quiet shoreline, and the way the light hits the water all make it feel peaceful and intimate.

HEWING HOTEL

If you want that moody, romantic city vibe, the Hewing Hotel absolutely delivers. The brick walls, huge windows, and warm lighting make everything feel cool. Head up to the rooftop for skyline views. It’s the kind of spot that feels upscale enough to get dressed up, but you’re still relaxed enough to order a drink after.

FISH CREEK

If you’re looking for something a little more low-key and tucked away, Fish Creek is one of those hidden spots locals quietly love. The wooded trails give it a peaceful, secluded vibe.

MICKEY’S DINER

Alright, hear me out—Mickey’s Diner is so fun. It’s vintage, iconic, and unapologetically classic St. Paul. If your relationship thrives on late-night pancakes and spontaneous adventures, this would be quirky, memorable, and honestly kind of legendary.

LAKE BDE MAKA SKA + LYNDALE PARK ROSE GARDEN

If you’re looking for a fantastic spot for your engagement photo shoot, look no further than Lake Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis’ Uptown area. With its convenient location and giant walking path encircling the lake, getting there is a breeze. And let me tell you, the Sailing Club marina on this lake is one of my absolute favorites. It adds a touch of charm, with sailboats gently bobbing on the water.

Just a quick five-minute drive from Lake Bde Maka Ska, you’ll come across Lyndale Park Rose Garden. Trust me; it’s a hidden gem that surprises everyone I bring here. You won’t believe such a beautiful park exists in the Uptown area! This place is a dream come true with its spacious grounds, charming Japanese garden, lovely fountains, and vibrant flowers. And it’s particularly stunning during spring and summer.

THE COMMONS & GOLD MEDAL PARK

Right near U.S. Bank Stadium, The Commons gives you modern city energy with open green space. Walk a few minutes to Gold Medal Park, and you get rolling hills, skyline views, and one of the best sunset spots in Minneapolis. It’s basically the best of both worlds.

MINNEHAHA FALLS PARK

Yeah, the waterfall gets all the hype, but Minnehaha Falls Park has way more going for it than just the main attraction. The trails along Minnehaha Creek are quiet, tree-lined, and feel surprisingly tucked away, being in the city. There are wooden bridges, little hidden paths, and spots where the light filters through the trees in that stupidly perfect golden-hour way.

HYLAND PARK RESERVE

If you want something quieter and more nature-forward, Hyland Park Reserve is a solid pick. Between the trails, lake views, and open fields, you’ve got a ton of space to make the moment your own. It’s peaceful, scenic, and perfect for couples who prefer fresh air over city noise.

YOUR FAVORITE BREWERY FT. INDEED OR FAVORITE BAR FT. BUNKERS

Let’s be real—if you and your partner love craft beer or cocktails, your favorite brewery or bar can feel incredibly you. Whether it’s your go-to date night spot or the place where you first met, the familiarity makes your engagement photos feel genuine.
