I’d be lying if I said this Minneapolis wedding didn’t immediately earn a spot in my favorites. Between Maggie surprising Josh with their pup, the giant cutout heads of their animals on the dance floor, and one of the best venue meals I’ve ever eaten, it was one of those weddings where nothing felt overly curated or forced. Add in an unusually warm Minnesota day, the buzz of Art-A-Whirl happening all around Northeast Minneapolis, and a venue that keeps raising the bar, and you have a celebration that was impossible not to love.

When Maggie first reached out, she told me they wanted their wedding to be “stress-free, casual, and with lots of laughs and love.” They wanted photos that captured movement, authenticity, and the relationships that mattered most. Looking back through these images, I’d say mission accomplished.

A Minneapolis Wedding That Never Tried to Be Anything Other Than Themselves

If you spent five minutes with Maggie and Josh, you’d understand exactly why their wedding felt so effortless. They’re the kind of couple who genuinely enjoy just hanging out together. Their perfect weekend involves heading up to Josh’s parents’ lake place in Brainerd, hiking with Shiloh, golfing, riding bikes, playing video games, and finding good food. They’re best friends first, and every decision they made reflected that.

One of my favorite moments happened before the ceremony when Maggie arranged a surprise visit from Shiloh. Josh had absolutely no idea, and seeing his face light up when his best buddy showed up was worth every second.

Of course, Shiloh didn’t disappear after that. Giant cutout heads of both Shiloh and their cat, Skizzy, somehow became the unofficial stars of the reception. People were dancing with them, holding them up during songs, and laughing so hard. It was ridiculous in the absolute best way, and honestly…why don’t more weddings do this?

Why Diane’s Place Is One of Minneapolis’ Best Wedding Venues

I’ve photographed at many venues, and Diane’s Place absolutely deserves the attention it’s been getting. The space somehow manages to feel modern without feeling cold. The industrial architecture, windows, clean design, and flexible layout create a venue that photographs beautifully while still feeling welcoming. Whether you’re planning something minimal or bringing in bold design elements like Maggie and Josh did, it adapts without overpowering your vision.

And then there’s the food. Listen…people always say wedding food is “surprisingly good.” This wasn’t surprisingly good. It was just flat-out good. Diane’s Place caters its own events, and it’s one of the few wedding dinners I’ve left genuinely talking about afterward.

The design choices throughout the day fit the venue perfectly, too. Rich reds, vibrant greens, and pops of deep purple all felt current without chasing trends. Being there during Art-A-Whirl weekend also added something extra. Northeast Minneapolis was buzzing all day, and you could feel that creative energy spilling into the celebration. The whole neighborhood felt alive, which somehow made an already joyful day feel even more exciting.
